On the 22nd March, the University of Bristol Swimming Team made the long trip to the Pond’s Forge International Arena for the third time this year; to compete in the BUCS Teams Shield Final along with nine other teams. Fresh from varsity success, Bristol would now face some of swimming’s elite establishments, such as Bath and Sheffield Hallam. As early as the first race, stern opposition was encountered. Bristol’s women’s Medley relay team, having been so dominant in the qualifying round, started proceedings with a 6th place finish and setting the tone for the meet. Despite battling valiantly throughout the day, Bristol finished the competition in 8th place with 104 points. An honorable mention must go to Felicity Hamilton-Cox for her 2nd place in the 50m Breastroke.
Despite this, morale remains high within the Bristol team, having already exceeded prior expectations in reaching the final. Thoughts now turn to next year, with preparations for even stronger performances already underway. We may have been bloodied but we will not be bowed!
